FLUORIDE DATE LECTURE #28 - TIME SPECIAL REPORT ON THE ENVIRONMENT CALLS FLUORIDE THIRD WORST HOUSEHOLD TOXIN

Good afternoon, Mayor and Councilmembers.  Today, some breaking news.  A just-released TIME/CNN Special Report on the Environment lists fluoride third among the Top Ten Common Household Toxins. The report, appropriately enough, is dated April Fool’s Day, but it’s no joke.  With all those plastics, aerosols, lead and asbestos to compete with, landing the No. 3 spot is a real distinction.

I’ll quote briefly from the report, which is page 1 of your handout.

“Found in:  toothpaste, tap water.  Health hazards:  Neurotoxic and potentially tumorigenic if swallowed.”

Does anyone else here feel cognitive dissonance closing in?  Fluoridated tap water is intended to be swallowed.  Its tumorigenic properties were well known in Austin during the 1950’s and 60’s when a UT cancer researcher, Dr. Alfred Taylor exposed them—repeatedly. Fluoridation here had to wait until after Dr. Taylor retired and moved away.

“The American Dental Association advises that children under 2 not use fluoride toothpaste.”

The ADA also advises that infants under a year old get no fluoride exposure whatsoever, an impossibility in a fluoridated environment.

“Government studies support current fluoride levels in tap water, but studies on long term exposure and cancer are ongoing.”

Ongoing studies like, say, this one by a team of Brazilian scientists, as reported recently in the journal Toxicology.  It’s titled “Fluoride increases lead concentrations in whole blood and in calcified tissues from lead-exposed rats. Well, what fluoride does to rats it also does to people—with the economically disadvantaged suffering disproportionately..

Now, on side 2 of the handout, you’ll see these words: “Chemicals in plastics and other products seem harmless, but mounting evidence links them to health problems—and Washington lacks the power to protect us”

What Washington actually lacks is the will to protect us. Our federal government has in fact been fluoride’s chief promoter for 60 years and is the reason we’re drinking it today.  That’s why I’m here, speaking, week after week.  Washington’s toxic legacy can and must be remedied at the local level.

One last thing: on Wednesday, April 21 Fluoride Free Austin will have a booth at the Earth Day celebration in Triangle Park, 4-10 pm.. We hope you’ll join us. Thank you.

Poison control had me speak to the supervisor when I was not satisfied they did not think fluoridated toothpaste was a poison issue. The boss when I said f toothpaste could be a risk started laughing and could not stop. She informed me it was near impossible for a child to die from toothpaste as they would not be able to swallow enough. I told her death was not the only risk as it was a cumulative toxin casing many problems over time and many children had dental fluorosis. She then told me I should talk to dentists then as it was a dental issue not poison control.
Also the handout called poison proofing your home did not have F toothpaste listed or f water either. They did cover room by room poisons but toothpaste was not mentioned in bathroom. This hand out was glossy tri fold at Health department in spanish and english . Government at its worst and ignorant workers not protecting children or adults. Not even proven high risk groups they deny exist even after they have the data.

Basically, the water intended to cure the tooth decay of people who can't afford dental insurance is slowly killing them. Did the government even do its homework on the toxicity of fluoride, or are they just that cheap?
