FLUORIDE DATE LECTURE #41 -THE HIGH COST OF DENTAL FLUOROSIS

Good afternoon, Mayor and Council members.  I’m going to play a short video clip:

Why Does This Girl Feel Ugly?

There you have it.  The condition which made that teen feel unattractive is dental fluorosis:  the same condition the Centers for Disease Control now admits afflicts 41% of our 12 to 15-year-olds.  Furthermore, the girl has already spent close to $1,000 on temporary cosmetic dentistry, and expects to pay “at least” $5,000 for permanent porcelain veneers later—but that’s just for her four front teeth.  If she wants to cover more than four teeth, the cost will be far greater.  According to Dr. Griffin Cole, an Austin dentist who has treated such patients, today’s price runs between $1,200 and $1,600 per tooth.  Funny how the CDC and ADA never mention that when they talk about glorious savings in dental care through water fluoridation.   If fluoridation were truly effective, after more than 60 years of it dentistry would now be a declining profession, like horseshoeing.  Clearly it's not.  Dentists are doing very well, and cosmetic repair is a big part of it.  Fluoridating drinking water does nothing but damage.  It's time to stop.

As the clip shows, in addition to the health hazards fluoridated water causes, the emotional costs are considerable. With all the insecurities our children face these days, why should we add discolored teeth? The toll of low self esteem is enormous, yet we continue to add to it.
